Le Pont d’Ainay n’existe plus, mais cette cache est située dans les vestiges. Elle ne contient que le logbook : Prévoyez donc un stylo.

The Ainay bridge is no longer there but this cache is in the remains. It only contains the logbook, so you should take a pen with you.
On voit encore assez bien l'emplacement de ce pont par les culées qui existent encore sur les deux rives et déterminent deux légères montées et deux courbures sur les quais. Détruit en septembre 1944, il n'a pas été reconstruit au bénéfice de la construction, en plus grand, du pont Kitchener-Marchand. On a jugé qu'il ne se trouvait plus dans l'axe des rues importantes tant vers Ainay que vers Saint-Georges et la Quarantaine, et donc que son utilité dans la circulation était faible. Il avait eu pourtant une assez longue histoire et, sous diverses formes, fit partie du paysage pendant plus de 200 ans. 1897 à 1899, reconstruction d'un pont métallique ressemblant en plus petit aux ponts Galliéni ou de l'Université. D'une longueur de 119 m, doté d'une chaussée de 6 m, et deux trottoirs de 2 m. Il est éclairé d'abord au gaz puis à l'électricité. Sur le quai, on peut encore voir deux plaques en bronze qui atteste de son existence. Pourtant des maçons bien peu scrupuleux des vestiges du passé ont occulté une partie de ces plaques. The site of this bridge can still be seen easily by the abutments which remain on the two banks and the two slight rises and curves on the quays. Destroyed in September 1944, it was not rebuilt in favour of the construction of the larger Kitchener-Marchand bridge. It was decided that it was no longer a part of the major road system either for Ainay or St Georges and Quarantaine as it had outlived its usefulness in the traffic sytem. It had had, however, a rather long history and, in various forms, had formed part of the landscape for more than 200 years. In 1897 to 1899, a metal bridge was rebuilt resembling a smaller version of the Galliéni or Université bridges. It was 119 m long, equipped with a 6 m wide road, and two 2 m pavements. It was initially lit with gas then with electricity. On the quay, you can still see two bronzes plaques which attest to its previous existence. However the masons were not very careful with the remains and obscured part of these plaques. For more information click here and here.

Came down to Lyon to check that my 6 caches were in good condition and that there was room to write in the log books. I could not find the cache, which was suprising because it was found 5 days agao. All I found was the little pencil on the ground so I replaced the container and logbook.

Suite de la promenade nocturne...
Cache trouvée lors d'un déplacement près de Lyon...
Un peu de détente dans cette belle ville est toujours bienvenu !
Surtout lorsque l'on apprend des choses !!
La vue sur les fortification en face, de nuit, est superbe !

19:30. On my way to the Feu d'artifice du 14 juillet à Lyon I verified that the cache had indeed been removed by some kind person! I replaced it with a new cache of film container size. The fireworks on Fourvière were spectacular and well worth a visit next year.
